Een MGRS-coördinaat is opgebouwd als 31U FT 45332 73249: gridzone (31U), 100 km-vak (FT) en easting/northing. Meer cijfers = nauwkeuriger: 5+5 cijfers is 1 m, 4+4 is 10 m, 3+3 is 100 m.
